Healthy Eating

We have a healthy eating and no nuts policy at St Francis. Children should bring drink bottles that can be refilled during the day as well as healthy snacks and lunch. To encourage all children to be eating healthily, please restrict any ‘treats’ to home snacks – It is difficult to develop healthy eating habits if some children are bringing chips, chocolates or other foods we should only eat occasionally. At school therefore children should have foods such as fruit, sultanas, cheese, vegetable sticks, sandwiches, muffins, rice or pasta that can be eaten cold. Nuts and any food containing nuts are not appropriate and are not permitted at St Francis.

Due to our food policy and the fact that each child works with a large number of other children across their level, parents are requested not to send cake or other treats to school to celebrate birthdays. Staff ensure each child’s birthday is recognised and celebrated through simple home group rituals and assemblies.
